Sketched from a gem of a cafe gallery in Kameido, with the sweetest proprietress.

She’s been running this place for 22 years, and all the paintings are by her late uncle. She’s so warm and friendly to everyone, and spent a long time chatting with one of her regulars like old friends. This is the kind of down-to-Earth vibe that I’ve only seen in Japanese dramas.

She absolutely showered me with compliments while I was sketching her shop, and I heard her whisper to her regular “how much do you think she’ll sell this for” 🤣 So I offered to send her a postcard print of it for free.

She said, her late uncle also didn't like to sell his paintings; his motto was "art is for people to look at and enjoy, not for making money". I guess we have that in common.

亀戸で見つけた、ギャラリー併設の素敵なカフェでのスケッチ。

オーナーさんが本当にチャーミングな方でした。ここで22年もお店を続けていて、飾られている絵はすべて亡くなったおじ様が描かれたものだそう。誰に対しても温かくて、常連さんとまるで旧友みたいに話し込んでいる姿は、まるで昔のドラマに出てくるような、ほっこりする光景でした。

私が店内を描いている間も、ずっと褒めてくださって… ふと、「あの絵、いくらで売るのかしら？」なんて常連さんにこっそり囁いているのが聞こえてきて、思わず笑っちゃいました🤣

なので、お礼にポストカードに印刷してプレゼントすると約束したんです。

オーナーさんが、「亡くなった叔父も、絵を売るのは好きじゃなかったの。『芸術は売るためのものじゃなく、みんなに見て楽しんでもらうためのものだ』が口癖だった」と教えてくれました。どうやら、おじ様と私は気が合うみたいです。

在龜戶偶然發現的一間畫廊咖啡廳畫速寫。

店主是一位超級親切的阿姨，整間店都充滿了溫馨感。這裡她已經經營了 22 年，店內掛著的畫作全都是她已故伯伯的作品。店主對每個人都特別熱情親切，看她跟熟客像老朋友一樣聊了好久，那種樸實又充滿人情味的氛圍，真的只有在日劇裡才看過。

我在畫畫的時候，她不停地誇我，還偷聽到她小聲跟熟客說：「妳覺得她這張她多少錢會畫會賣給我呀？」🤣 於是我就說，之後印一張明信片送給她。

她告訴我，她伯伯生前也不喜歡賣畫，他總是說：「藝術是為了讓大家欣賞的，不是為了變成錢。」我想，在這一點上我們應該很有共鳴吧。

I came to Kameido Tenjin Shrine hoping to sketch their famous wisterias, but alas I didn't time it right and all the flowers are already gone. Still pretty cool to capture this view of the shrine & SkyTree together though!

Sketching wisterias at Nishiarai Daishi

It’s the end of the wisteria season, and the tree here is actually pretty small, so I think I would have been disappointed if I came all this way just for photos.

Thankfully, I have artistic license to put more flowers in my sketch, and it was very relaxing to paint in the garden, so it still made for a fun little trip 😊

今年の藤シーズンは早かったので、もうすぐ終わりですね。ここの木は実は結構小さくて、もし写真撮影のためだけに来ていたら、ちょっとがっかりしていたかもしれません。

でも、そこは絵描きの特権！スケッチでは花を少し盛り気味に描いちゃいました。お庭で絵を描く時間はとてもリラックスできたし、楽しい一日になりました😊

在西新井大師寫生紫藤 🎨

今年的花開得很早，現在已經接近尾聲了呢。這裡的樹其實挺小的，如果單純為了拍照而來，可能會覺得有點失望。

不過，這裡我選擇使用畫家的特權！在畫裡加了點料，讓花看起來更茂盛一些。在花園裡的畫畫也很舒服，無論如何還是愉快的一天😊

Sakura sketching while picnicking in the park with @emirichuu and @daidus_art

It was really the perfect day for plein air, sunny & warm with a comfortable breeze, and sakura in full bloom 🌸 The iconic swan boats of Inokashira make for really fun subjects!

This is my 6th (and most likely last) sakura sketch this year. very happy I was able to capture a variety of spring scenes across Tokyo!

公園で友達とお花見スケッチ！🌸

暖かくて風も心地いい、桜も満開、絶好のスケッチ日和でした。井の頭公園のスワンボートは描いていて本当に楽しい！

今年の桜スケッチはこれで6枚目。最後になりそうだけど、東京のいろんな春の景色を描けて大満足です！

那天是個溫暖又有微風的大晴天，櫻花正在滿開，真的是最適合寫生的日子。井之頭公園標誌性的天鵝船畫起來也很有趣！

這是我今年第6張櫻花寫生，也應該是最後一張了。很開心能記錄下東京各種不同的春季美景

Quick 20-min sketch of my favorite Jizo statue in Yutenji Temple. He looks so peaceful, and it was such a therapeutic experience to sketch him among the falling sakura petals 😌

There is a seasonal poem in the temple by the Chinese poet Liu Xiyi, which reads “Year after year, the flowers are the same; year after year, the people are different”.

This put me in deep contemplation: last year this time, I was also blissfully sketching sakura in Kyoto; but at the time I had no idea I would go on to quit my job and be a full-time artist. Scary but exciting times ahead!

祐天寺でお気に入りの地蔵尊を20分で時短スケッチ。舞い散る桜の中、穏やかな表情の地蔵尊を描いていると、とても癒やされるひとときでした😌

寺内には、中国の詩人劉希夷の「年年歳歳花相似たり、歳歳年年人同じからず」という詩が添えられていました。

その言葉にふと自分を重ねて、感心でした。去年の今頃も、京都で桜をいっぱいスケッチしてたが、その時はまさか自分が仕事を辞めてフルタイムのアーティストになるとは夢にも思っていませんでした。不安もありますが、これからの挑戦にワクワクしています！

在祐天寺快快畫了我最喜歡的一尊地藏像。他的神情好安詳，在紛飛的櫻花瓣中畫速寫，真的是非常療癒的體驗😌

寺院內寫了一篇中國詩人劉希夷的季節詩：「年年歲歲花相似，歲歲年年人不同」

Quick 20-min sketch of my favorite Jizo statue in Yutenji Temple. He looks so peaceful, and it was such a therapeutic experience to sketch him among the falling sakura petals 😌

There is a seasonal poem in the temple by the Chinese poet Liu Xiyi, which reads “Year after year, the flowers are the same; year after year, the people are different”.

This put me in deep contemplation: last year this time, I was also blissfully sketching sakura in Kyoto; but at the time I had no idea I would go on to quit my job and be a full-time artist. Scary but exciting times ahead!

祐天寺でお気に入りの地蔵尊を20分で時短スケッチ。舞い散る桜の中、穏やかな表情の地蔵尊を描いていると、とても癒やされるひとときでした😌

寺内には、中国の詩人劉希夷の「年年歳歳花相似たり、歳歳年年人同じからず」という詩が添えられていました。

その言葉にふと自分を重ねて、感心でした。去年の今頃も、京都で桜をいっぱいスケッチしてたが、その時はまさか自分が仕事を辞めてフルタイムのアーティストになるとは夢にも思っていませんでした。不安もありますが、これからの挑戦にワクワクしています！

在祐天寺快快畫了我最喜歡的一尊地藏像。他的神情好安詳，在紛飛的櫻花瓣中畫速寫，真的是非常療癒的體驗😌

寺院內寫了一篇中國詩人劉希夷的季節詩：「年年歲歲花相似，歲歲年年人不同」
